Africa’s pharmaceutical industry leaders and decision-makers will gather for an unprecedented discussion about Africa’s bright pharmaceutical prospects during the first ever “Africa Pharmaceutical Summit” from September 23-24, 2013 in Hammamet, Tunisia.

With a booming demand on drugs and medicine expected to raise up to US $40 billion as early as 2020, Africa’s pharmaceutical prospects are attracting growing interest from private investors around the world. An increasing number of Africans with significant disposable income and spending power, strong demographic dynamics, including fast urbanization, steady economic growth in most parts of the continent, improved infrastructure in both rural and urban areas are the drivers of Africa’s pharmaceutical boom. The pharmaceuticals industry development is also very high on the agenda of African countries, which are developing continental and regional strategies on the local production of drugs.

Created by the African Development Bank Group and Africa Health, the 1st Africa Pharmaceutical Summit will address a wide range of issues such as regulatory frameworks and protection of the poor against exorbitant cost of drugs, greater policy coherence between industrial policy and public health, as well prospects for job creation.

Participants to the Africa Pharmaceutical Summit will gain knowledge and insights from Africa’s leading pharmaceutical experts, organizations and government officials. The event is expected to attract high level policy-makers, Ministers of Health, Industry, Trade and Finance, CEOs, pharmaceutical experts, manufacturers, academics, among others.
