    GlaxoSmithKline  today announced it has reached agreement to sell its thrombosis brands, Arixtra® and Fraxiparine®, and the Notre-Dame de Bondeville (NDB) manufacturing site to The Aspen Group (Aspen), the South African pharmaceuticals company, for £0.7 billion in cash, of which £0.1 billion relates to inventory. The agreement is a further example of GSK’s commitment to increase focus on products with the most growth potential and the delivery of its late-stage pipeline.

    After a year of bearish commentary on South Africa's economy, following waves of industrial strike action and negative ratings outlook on its sovereign debt, it's great to see its securities exchange and financial markets still producing a world-class performance.

    A South African court on Tuesday ordered the local unit of Wal-Mart to double a planned fund for small suppliers to $23 million, ending more than a year of legal wrangling over its entry into Africa.
